Halo 4: “We had to scale it down quite a bit”

master chief halo 4Halo 4 is a game jam-packed with content but after speaking with the team, we learned that it could have been even bigger.

“Halo games have always been big,” explains executive producer Kiki Wolfkill in an exclusive post-mortem interview with X360. “But there were so many thing that we wanted to do with this game that we even had to scale it down quite a bit.”

But much of the planned or proposed content won’t go to waste – 343 has in Spartan Ops a way to continually expand the Halo experience in a truly original and perfectly pitched manner. “It’s interesting for us to consider how we can deliver content on a more regular basis instead of in one monolithic chunk of content, and that’s something we’re exploring with Spartan Ops,” Wolfkill confirms. “We did want to make sure we delivered a really cohesive experience and when it came to things like Spartan Ops, there wasn’t really an option for us not to do that.”

With new Spartan Ops content arriving on a regular basis, Halo 4 continues to grow and improve – is this a format we can expect to see other developers adopting in the future? “It wouldn’t surprise me if we see more of this down the road,” states Wolfkill. “We feel fortunate that we had the opportunity to get this out there first and to learn from it.”
